Job Summary:
To analyze facilities and operations of workers' compensation clients to advise on risk management techniques to reduce workplace accidents and illnesses.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities:

Reviews claims history of workers' compensation clients.

Discusses with underwriter the client's physical plant and type of operation.

Visits plant to perform a job hazard and plant hazard analysis. Discusses with management their safety concerns and plans for eliminating hazards and improving safety record.

Assists client in investigation of workplace accidents as requested.

Prepares a thorough report and makes recommendations for developing a comprehensive loss prevention program.

Makes recommendations for improvements in worker training.

Observes workers for indications of ergonomic problems. Offers suggestions to relieve stresses and may suggest a full study by an ergonomist.

Provides literature that addresses frequent causes of workplace accidents.

Continues to review claims and may recommend further changes as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with others to make recommendations.
Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor's degree in safety engineering, risk management or related field.

Successful completion of company course on workers' compensation underwriting.

At least 1 year of experience in the safety field.

Valid driver's license to travel to clients' facilities.
Physical Requirements:

Manual dexterity sufficient to prepare computer reports describing clients' operations.

Physical ability to walk over rough terrain if necessary to view clients' operations.

Visual acuity (as corrected) as needed for driver's license and to observe operations during plant tours.
