Janet Dhillon Nominated to Lead Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation
On March 10, Janet Dhillon was nominated to serve as the next director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), the federal agency that insures private-sector defined benefit pension plans. Her nomination is now under review by the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions.
Dhillon served as chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) from 2019 to 2021 and remained on the commission until 2022. Before her tenure at the EEOC, she held senior legal roles at Burlington Stores, JCPenney, and US Airways. Most recently, she was the chief legal officer and corporate secretary of Dollar Tree Inc.
Since May 2024, Ann Orr has been serving as acting director of PBGC following the departure of Gordon Hartogensis, who completed his five-year term. If confirmed, Dhillon would oversee PBGC’s efforts to protect pension benefits, as well as manage the agency’s financial responsibilities.
