Navigating EAD Revocations for Workers Affected by Policy Changes
As the Trump administration moves to end certain immigration statuses, namely Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans and humanitarian parole for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans (CHNV), many employers are facing uncertainty. An underlying issue is that employees may hold employment authorization documents (EADs) that appear valid, but these individuals have lost the underlying status that allows them to work legally in the U.S.
To help employers navigate these changes, the federal government is providing updated EAD Revocation Guidance for E-Verify Employers. HR teams should monitor these updates regularly to ensure compliance and understand the steps to take if an employee’s work authorization is affected.
SHRM is here to help, providing members with resources, guidance, and practical toolkits to navigate these challenges. We are also actively engaging with the relevant federal departments to advocate for clear, consistent, and compliance-oriented policies that support both employers and the overall workforce.
