SHRM Leadership Meets with Policymakers to Advance Workforce Priorities
On April 28, SHRM President and Chief Executive Officer Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, and Head of Government Affairs and Chief of Staff Emily M. Dickens, J.D., met with U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer and Deputy Secretary Keith Sonderling to discuss workforce development priorities and explore opportunities for future collaboration.
SHRM leaders emphasized the need to engage a broad range of stakeholders to advance workforce development and support the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence. They offered SHRM’s assistance to the Department of Labor (DOL), drawing on SHRM’s work in AI implementation and modern workforce strategies.
On April 30, Taylor and Dickens met with Rep. Burgess Owens, R-Utah, and Sens. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., and Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Del., to discuss SHRM’s ongoing workforce priorities. Conversations focused on strengthening workforce development systems, expanding support for family caregivers, advancing skills-based training opportunities such as apprenticeships, and ensuring American workers are prepared for a rapidly evolving economy — including the impact of emerging technologies including AI. SHRM also emphasized the importance of tapping into underutilized talent pools and continuing bipartisan efforts to modernize the workplace.
As a leading voice for modern, inclusive, and data-informed workforce policy, SHRM remains ready to support the DOL and its new leadership in building a future-ready American workforce.
