Supreme Court 2025 Session Kicks Off
The U.S. Supreme Court began its 2025 session on Oct. 6, drawing attention to high-profile cases that include challenges to executive orders. Of the cases that have been granted, some will address broad societal issues, while others will have direct impacts on work, workers, and the workplace.
One case to watch is Trump v. Slaughter, which gives the court a chance to revisit Humphrey’s Executor (1935) and potentially redefine presidential removal power over independent agencies such as the Federal Trade Commission, National Labor Relations Board, and U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
For HR professionals and business executives, monitoring, understanding and interpreting court opinions is no longer optional — it’s a strategic necessity. Court rulings shape workplace regulations and laws in areas including wage and hour law, data privacy, nondiscrimination, and labor relations.
SHRM stands ready to help HR leaders anticipate regulatory shifts, align policies with evolving legal standards, and prepare for rules subject to closer judicial scrutiny, promoting clarity, consistency, and compliance in workplace law.
