Trump Nominates 2 to NLRB to Restore Quorum
President Donald Trump has nominated two individuals to serve on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB): Scott Mayer, chief labor counsel at Boeing, and James Murphy, a former career official with the NLRB. Both nominees must be confirmed by the Senate.
The NLRB is responsible for enforcing U.S. labor law, protecting employees’ rights to organize, overseeing union elections, and resolving workplace disputes. Its decisions play a key role in shaping labor-management relations nationwide.
Since January, the NLRB has lacked a quorum and has been unable to issue decisions, following Trump’s dismissal of Democratic member Gwynne Wilcox. That left just two members — Republican Chairman Marvin Kaplan and Democrat David Prouty.
Wilcox’s removal remains under legal challenge. While the Supreme Court has temporarily upheld the dismissal, litigation is ongoing in lower courts.
