Recertification Q&A: Credits for National Membership, Annual Conference
Answers to frequently asked questions about maintaining your credential

Have questions about recertifying your SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP? In every issue, the SHRM Certification team will answer some of the frequently asked questions they receive from credential-holders.
Q. Does my membership in the national SHRM organization qualify for recertification credit?
A. Yes. SHRM national members are eligible to receive three professional development credits (PDCs) for each year of membership. Therefore, within your three-year recertification cycle, you could qualify for a maximum of nine PDCs. Membership PDCs are auto-uploaded to your SHRM Certification Portal after the completion of a certification year, provided you are a member for the 12 months within that year.
Q. Does my attendance at SHRM's Annual Conference qualify for recertification credit?
A. Yes. SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP credential-holders are eligible to earn PDCs for attending SHRM's Annual Conference & Exposition; the exact number of credits earned depends on the number of days you attend. (At the 2018 conference, for instance, if you attended the full four-day event, you would have earned 17.25 PDCs.) Because the conference is a SHRM-sponsored event, credits are automatically uploaded to your file in the SHRM Certification Portal. Uploads are typically viewable approximately two to three weeks after the event concludes.
