Job Summary:
The Customs Broker will create customs documentation and ensure that shipments comply with applicable import and export laws.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Determines duties and taxes payable for importing or exporting goods.
- Calculates duty and tariff payments owed on shipments and processes payments for the client.
- Processes import and export documentation in compliance with laws, customs regulations, or company and client procedures.
- Obtains power of attorney from the client and signs necessary documents.
- Ensures that goods are cleared through customs and arrive at their intended destination.
- Requests necessary documentation for import, such as customs invoices, certificates of origin, and cargo-control documents.
- Informs clients of import and export restrictions, tariff systems, insurance requirements, quotas, or other matters related to customs.
- Tracks the location of goods.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of procedures and regulations for importing and exporting goods.
- Ability to remain current on changes in import or export laws or regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; postsecondary business courses preferred.
- Customs broker license required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
