Job Summary:
The Municipal Tax Assessor will determine the market values of properties and calculate property tax rates.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Calculates the market value of various types of properties including new construction, renovations, and additions, by reviewing comparable properties and the housing market.
- Gathers data on assessed properties by conducting physical inspections and taking photographs.
- Reviews building plans and other related construction documents.
- Determines tax rates based on the propertys market value.
- Answers property owners questions concerning valuation of the property and tax rate.
- Prepares reports on the condition of inspected properties.
- Maintains records, updating to reflect renovations and updates of properties.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Extensive knowledge of appraisal procedures.
- Excellent math skills.
- Ability to read documents such as building plans and property deeds.
- Ability to accurately determine the value of a property.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Associates degree required. Bachelors degree with studies in Business, Accounting, or related field preferred.
- Five years of related experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Physically able to inspect property, which may include climbing a ladder, squatting, or crawling.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
