SHRM Launches Strategic Membership Partnership to Advance HR in Africa
This partnership brings together forward-thinking African HR professionals, business leaders, and technology innovators to foster connection on global trends shaping the future of work.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Today, SHRM – the trusted global authority on work, workers, and the workplace – announced a landmark membership partnership with national HR associations across Africa. This initiative aims to empower HR professionals throughout the continent by providing affordable access to SHRM’s world-class resources, including in research, certification, and education.
Over the past two years, SHRM has been a driving partner in the Global Conference on Human Resources in Africa (GCHRA) in Accra, Ghana—bringing together forward-thinking African HR professionals, business leaders, and technology innovators to foster connection on global trends shaping the future of work.
“Today is an exciting day for SHRM and HR in Africa as we collaborate with HR leaders across the continent through our expanded membership,” said Emily M. Dickens, Chief of Staff and Head of Government Affairs, SHRM. “Africa is rapidly emerging as the next global economic frontier, driven by its dynamic workforce. By 2050, the continent's population is projected to double to 2.5 billion, with 60% under the age of 25. This remarkable demographic shift positions Africa as a pivotal player in the global labor market, particularly in high-growth sectors such as manufacturing, digital technology, and green energy. HR professionals and leaders have a pivotal responsibility to drive progress and empower workforces by ensuring access to essential HR resources that support their roles. By introducing our membership offering, SHRM can deliver greater value to both employers and employees and help shape the future of HR across Africa.”
Partnership Highlights
This new three-year partnership is formalized through Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with national HR associations in Ghana, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
The agreement is designed to:
- Strengthen collaboration among HR professionals across Africa
- Advance professional development and global connectivity
