Mastering Career trajectory with Professional Tips

Building on the insights from our previous blog, this final segment is the final leg of the nine ways one can develop their career path. Let’s explore the framework for sustained growth through mentorship, power of assessment and sharing one’s experiences and knowledge fostering mutual development.

  • Mentor Relationships

Another way to incorporate development in one's life, and often ignored, is mentor relationship. We have talked about the importance of having a mentor as one of the leadership lessons by Kautilya in our earlier blog. Seeking a mentor to guide in one’s endeavours is a good way of gaining knowledge as well as mastery. A mentor can be any one within or outside one’s company. A mentor is a coach or a teacher who can share valuable life experiences and serve as a sounding board. The knowledge that one could glean from a mentor who has done the hard work and is willing to pass on the learnings and experiences, is always invaluable.

  • Feedback

Well considered criticism, constructive and subjective feedback give rise to course corrections and lead to significantly improved outcomes. Once any given task is accomplished, being able to reflect upon one’s experiences is an excellent quality to work on personal work ethic. Reflecting involves analysing experiences, the kind of work one did, whether it was rewarding or not, how one influence the result and the room for improvement as observed. Requesting feedback from colleagues on how one fared in the task would be a crucial factor in overall career development. Arming oneself with knowledge of one’s work and how the work is perceived, are important aspects of one’s personal and professional life that could help build work life balance and a rewarding career in the long term.

  • Lead and Teach 

Finally lead and teach. There is no better way to learn than to teach. Teaching people is a wonderful way of increasing, or at least improving upon the knowledge that one possesses. Teaching brings into focus all of one’s work and life experience as attempt to pass on the valuable lessons learned over the years. A wonderful way to impart such knowledge is while being a leader. Leadership positions provide unparalleled opportunities to gain experience new things as well as impart knowledge. It is also of utmost importance that there is mutual development between leaders and employees to improve each other's quality and knowledge. In a dynamic and ever-changing world, it's essential to focus on sustained development of one’s skill and making it a sustainable process with measurable goals will make the journey enjoyable and rewarding. 

Conclusion

Over time the art and science of human resources has advanced, even morphing into an all-encompassing field during times like the covid pandemic. It is crucial that  professionals constantly educate themselves, work on self-improvement within the organization and with fellow employees to elevate their career trajectory.
