Job Summary:
The Transportation Manager (Traffic Manager) will execute, direct, and coordinate shipments into and out of an organization.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Hires and trains transportation staff.
- Supervises clerks working with tariff classifications or billing.
- Oversees the daily workflow, schedules, and assignments of transportation employees.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Oversees the coordination and routing of shipments.
- Directs dispatching and routing activities and tracks transportation vehicles.
- Ensures that customer difficulties or problems are investigated and resolved.
- Negotiates and secures contracts with transportation providers and customers.
- Directs all maintenance, repair, and replacement of shipping equipment or vehicles.
- Implements safety audits and trains staff members on safety issues.
- Maintains knowledge of best practices including the most efficient and cost-effective shipping methods.
- Maintains knowledge of regulations related to transportation including those related to hazardous shipments, employee safety, and freight classifications.
- In collaboration with other managers, develops and implements policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for transportation operations.
- Ensures compliance with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, union contracts, environmental policies, and government regulations.
- Reviews and analyzes expenditures and other financial information; uses results to develop and implement plans, policies, and budgets.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Logistics or a related field required.
- At least three years of related experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
