Job Summary:
The Language Instructor will teach students to speak, read, write, comprehend, and communicate in a selected language.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Designs and implements instructive and engaging lesson plans on a selected language.
- Provides effective instruction on and opportunities to practice the language, including vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar.
- Provides cultural instruction on the country or countries where the language is spoken.
- Participates as an active part of the instructional staff, which may include attending staff development and planning activities.
- Maintains documentation of students performance and language mastery, and attendance, participation, progress, and achievements.
- Reviews and revises lesson plans, materials, instructional practices, and technology to provide superior instruction.
- Manages the classroom to provide a safe, productive, and engaging learning environment.
- Maintains knowledge of instructional methodologies and cultural changes in the country or countries where the language is spoken.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including fluency in the language of instruction.
- Thorough understanding of various instructional methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Language, Education, or related field with at least 30 hours of foreign language, Linguistics, or Foreign Language Teaching courses required; Masters degree with at least 30 hours of foreign language, Linguistics, or Foreign Language Teaching courses highly preferred.
- Previous experience in education, foreign language, or curriculum development preferred.
- State teaching license or certification required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
