SHRM Joins In White House Initiative to Build Nation's Cyber Workforce
Free Employment Toolkit Is Latest Offering in Efforts to Strengthen U.S. Cyber Talent Pipeline
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – SHRM today joined in the White House’s National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy (NCWES), making its Cyber Resource Kit for HR professionals publicly available to strengthen the talent pipeline for this critical industry. This online learning resource helps HR professionals advance policies and practices that support recruiting, developing and retaining top cyber talent in the United States.
SHRM is offering the toolkit at no charge, with the goal of training at least 15,000 HR professionals and contributing to the hiring of up to 75,000 cyber professionals by the end of Fiscal Year 2024. Developed in conjunction with SANS, the toolkit will allow HR practitioners to learn how to assess and recruit skilled applicants in the cyber workforce system.
“Improving national cybersecurity demands a bigger, better cyber workforce, and we want to make sure human resources professionals are well equipped to contribute to this urgent national priority,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., President and CEO of SHRM. “We are proud to make this employment resource available as part of HR’s ongoing commitment to developing top cyber talent.”
Supporting the NCWES with this toolkit offering is just the latest in SHRM’s efforts to improve cybersecurity and build the cyber workforce. Additional work includes:
- To respond to CEO inquiries, the SHRM CEO Academy is hosting a session this fall titled Cybersecurity: What You Don’t Know Could Destroy your Business to discuss the significance of cybersecurity for organizations.
- SHRMLabs has developed a set of key considerations for cybersecurity workforce development in relation to workplace technology.
- SHRM Executive Team members are supporting Florida International University in training 8,000 new cybersecurity professionals and connecting them to employers as part of a Department of Labor initiative.
- The SHRM Executive Team is working with the Aspen Institute Latinos and Society program on cybersecurity research as a key economic opportunity lever.
