ALEXANDRIA, Va. — SHRM, the Society for Human Resource Management, has introduced a professional development program for human resource professionals who oversee workplace immigration or seek to fill their organization’s skills gap by integrating foreign talent into their recruiting strategy—the SHRM U.S. Employment Immigration Specialty Credential.
About one-third of HR respondents to a SHRM survey found the U.S. employment-based immigration process very difficult to navigate. By earning this credential, recipients will be able to better manage employment visas, regulations, employment verification processes and audit risks, and keep their organizations competitive and compliant.
“The U.S. immigration system is the most complex in the world, and the professionals who can navigate it are top hires and critical resources for their employers,” said Emily M. Dickens, corporate secretary and chief of staff for SHRM. “The SHRM U.S. Employment Immigration Specialty Credential demonstrates proven expertise and commitment to securing elite global talent and understanding the intricacies of federal law.”
To earn this credential, candidates will need to purchase the learning package, which includes enrollment in the SHRM educational program, “Global Hiring: Complying with U.S. Visa Requirements,” which is available in person or virtually, and three comprehensive SHRM eLearning courses on U.S. employment immigration:
- Employment Eligibility: A Practical Guide to I-9 and E-Verify;
- Hiring Foreign Nationals: Non-Immigrant Visas; and
- Hiring Foreign Nationals: Immigrant Visas.
Once candidates pass a 50-question online immigration knowledge assessment, they will be awarded the SHRM U.S. Employment Immigration Specialty Credential.
Candidates are not required to hold a SHRM certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) to earn this specialty credential. However, those who complete the program will receive 26 professional development credits toward their recertification.
