Key DOL, NLRB Nominees to Go Before Senate
The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee has scheduled a confirmation hearing for Scott Mayer, chief labor counsel at Boeing, and James Murphy, a former career National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) official, to serve as members of the NLRB. They will be considered alongside Rosario Palmieri for assistant secretary of Labor for policy. The hearing is set for Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. Eastern.
In addition, Senate Republicans plan to advance 11 nominees to serve at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and other federal labor agencies later this month. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., filed an executive resolution to authorize consideration of 108 nominations, including top positions at the DOL and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). An executive resolution is a formal Senate action that allows the chamber to approve or move forward on nominations or other internal matters without them becoming law.
The 11 nominees are: Jonathan Berry as solicitor of Labor; Wayne Palmer to lead the Mine Safety and Health Administration; Julie Hocker to head the Office of Disability Employment Policy; Marco Rajkovich for a second term on the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission; David Keeling to lead the Occupational Safety and Health Administration; Andrew Rogers as Wage and Hour administrator; James Woodruff for the Merit Systems Protection Board; Jonathan Snare for the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission; David Brian Castillo as DOL CFO; Brittany Panuccio as EEOC commissioner; and Janet Dhillon as director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
Senate action on these nominations could shape key labor policy and enforcement across multiple federal agencies in the months ahead.
