Key Nominations Progress in Senate, Including Janet Dhillon
Henry Mack has been nominated to lead the Employment and Training Administration, the DOL office responsible for job training and unemployment insurance programs. If confirmed, Mack would oversee the agency as it implements new workforce development goals outlined by Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer and the president. These include a major overhaul of federal job training programs and an ambitious plan to enroll 1 million new apprentices annually.
Also, Julie Hocker has been nominated to serve as assistant secretary for the DOL’s Office of Disability Employment Policy, which provides technical assistance and promotes policies to increase employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
In addition, on May 15, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee voted 12–11 to favorably report the nomination of Janet Dhillon to serve as director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. Dhillon served as chair of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission during the president’s first term.
If confirmed, Dhillon would lead the agency responsible for safeguarding the retirement incomes of approximately 31 million American workers, retirees, and their families covered by private-sector defined benefit pension plans.
