SHRM Weighs in on New York State Legislation
Following a successful Advocacy Day in Albany, N.Y., earlier this year, SHRM weighed in on several bills pending before the New York State Legislature. While several of these bills align with SHRM’s legislative priorities to empower people and workplaces, SHRM was concerned about the scope of other bills. SHRM supported the following:
- S1674, which would establish a tax credit for employers who assist their employees in repaying higher education loans.
- S04358/A3240, the Veteran Family Educational Attainment Act. This legislation would allow veterans to transfer unused veterans’ tuition awards benefits to a spouse, survivor, or child.
- S4511/A33, which would establish a task force to promote state agencies’ employment of people with disabilities.
- A2118/S37, the Learning for Work Act, which would enhance workforce development and educational outcomes for individuals throughout New York state.
- A4566/S3915, which would enter New York into both the Counseling Compact and the Interjurisdictional Practice of Psychology (PSYPACT).
- A4930/S3270, which would create an adult high school workforce development demonstration project in Rochester, N.Y.
