USCIS Reaches H-1B Cap, Starts Selection Process
On April 1, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced hat it had received enough electronic registrations to meet the fiscal 2026 H-1B cap, including the master’s cap for advanced degree holders. First implemented for fiscal year 2025, the H-1B lottery now uses a “unique beneficiary” system, meaning each potential visa recipient is entered into the lottery only once, regardless of how many employers submit registrations on their behalf. With the cap reached, USCIS has begun randomly selecting beneficiaries and notifying eligible petitioners. Following the lottery results, the filing period for fiscal year 2026 H-1B cap-subject petitions opened on April 1 for selected beneficiaries with valid registrations.
