Job Summary:
The Nuclear Engineer will research, design, monitor, and operate equipment and develop procedures for use with nuclear energy and radiation.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conducts experiments to ensure and verify acceptable use of nuclear material, effective reclamation of nuclear fuel, and thorough disposal of nuclear waste.
- Develops or maintains nuclear equipment and instrumentation, which may include radiation shielding and reactor cores.
- Collaborates with development and design teams to improve existing equipment.
- Creates and executes computer models to be used in predicting equipment behavior and function.
- Collaborates with engineering development team to set operating standards with attention to radiologically sound policies and procedures.
- Researches and drafts operational instructions, policies, and procedures to explain plant operation and methods for handling and disposing of nuclear waste.
- Facilitates safe handling, transportation, and disposal of nuclear equipment, cores, and waste.
- Facilitates safe operation of the plant; identifies and corrects or reports practices that violate safety regulations and laws.
- In the event of an emergency, executes swift corrective action including shutdown of the plant.
- Prepares and publishes environmental impact statements.
- Maintains knowledge and understanding of nuclear energy best practices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Nuclear Engineering required; Masters Degree preferred.
- At least six years of experience with a nuclear power plant required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
