Job Summary:
The Private Duty Nurse will care for assigned patients, either in private homes or hospitals, and coordinate care between physician and family according to individual situations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Follows physicians orders for medications, treatments, and medical services.
- Keeps accurate records of patients conditions and reports to physician periodically because of adverse developments in a patients response to treatment.
- Provides prompt emergency treatment, including a 911 call if outside emergency services are necessary.
- Advises family on becoming proficient with assisting in patients treatment.
- Educates patient and family on the importance of maintaining proper diet and health habits.
- May supervise diet and cook special meals depending on patients needs.
- Maintains medical equipment and arranges for medical supplies and drugs.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Good verbal and written skills to communicate with patients, families, physicians, and other health professionals.
- Patience and empathy when dealing with patients who may be disagreeable and demanding.
- Emergency response capabilities in crisis situations.
Education and Experience:
- Registered nurse with current state license.
Physical Requirements:
- Sufficient physical strength to move patients.
- Sufficient vision and hearing ability to observe and communicate with patients.
