Job Summary:
The Refuse Truck Operator operates the refuse truck on pre-determined routes, controlling the trucks mechanical arms or similar equipment to collect refuse receptacles and deposit their contents in the truck.

Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Operates refuse truck on pre-determined route; safely controls the mechanical arms as required to collect receptacles and deposit their contents in the truck.
- Performs pre-operation safety check on vehicle prior to embarking on route.
- Refuels truck and performs basic maintenance.
- Facilitates proper maintenance and mechanical service on truck by appropriate mechanics.
- Transports refuse to proper location for processing and/or disposal.
- Notifies dispatchers and/or supervisors of delays, unsafe sites, accidents, breakdowns, or other issues.
- Maintains logs of pickup times and daily mileage.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to follow pre-determined schedule for all pickup and disposal routes.
- Ability to read and write to understand instructions and maintain written records.
- Ability to safely operate refuse truck and equipment.
- Thorough understanding of safe highway practices and motor vehicle regulations.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid Class B Drivers License or similar classification to operate refuse truck required.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Ability to work and drive in a variety of weather conditions.
- Exposure to strong odors.
