California Shift and Weekend Differential Pay Policy

Purpose

Nonexempt employees who are scheduled to, and do, work an evening, night or weekend shift.

Procedures

The evening shift differential applies to hours worked between [start time] and [end time]. Employees will be paid an evening shift differential of [amount] for each hour worked during this time.

The night shift differential applies to hours worked between [start time] and [end time]. Employees will be paid a night shift differential of [amount] for each hour worked during this time.

The weekend shift differential applies to hours worked between Saturday at [start time] and Sunday at [end time]. Employees will be paid a weekend shift differential of [amount] for each hour worked during this time.

The holiday shift differential applies to hours worked between [start time] and [end time] on a company-identified holiday. Employees will be paid a holiday shift differential of [amount] for each hour worked during this time.

[Choose one option:

• These differentials are cumulative; thus, each differential that applies will be paid to the employee.

• These differentials are not cumulative; thus, when more than one differential applies, the differential that provides the highest pay will be paid to the employee.]

All differentials paid to employees will be included in the employee’s regular rate for purposes of overtime wage calculations.

Holiday, vacation and other paid time off will generally be paid at the employee’s regular base pay, excluding any differential pay rates.
