Katy George is the Corporate Vice President, Workforce Transformation. George is spearheading a new team to understand the efficient frontier of AI-enabled production functions and the implications on workforces and labor trends. Her team will facilitate internal and external collaboration, best practice sharing and experimentation across our business areas. Learnings from the Microsoft experience will be incorporated into projections and scenario modeling to create insights about how the labor force and therefore our user base are likely to evolve—informing our corporate and product strategies as well as our own workforce strategies.
George most recently served as Chief People Officer at McKinsey & Company, where she oversaw all global people functions. Prior to her HR work, George led McKinsey’s Global Operations practice for three years, led the Mid-Atlantic office, and spent 25 years assisting McKinsey’s clients in redesigning their processes and accelerating their business strategies amidst workforce transformations and the adoption of digital technologies. As part of the McKinsey Global Institute, an economic think tank, George contributed research on the Future of Work and the future of HR.
George earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and government from Oberlin College and a PhD in Business Economics from Harvard University. Her doctoral work focused on labor economics and operations management, examining the relationships across production system design, workforce practices, and business outcomes.
