SHRM Foundation Innovation Grants support SHRM state councils and chapters working to improve their communities and build inclusive organizations. In 2018, the SHRM Foundation will award five grants of up to $10,000 each for programs or services that have practical and measurable effects on veteran employment. Awards may be granted to an existing program that is ready for expansion, or for new projects that will be implemented within six months of the award date.

Grant Distribution

SHRM Foundation will distribute the grants in two installments: 50 percent upon award and 50 percent at the program’s mid-point, as defined in the awardee’s timeline. The second installment will be released after successful review of a progress report. Awardees’ progress reports should follow the same format as their round two proposal.

SHRM Foundation may request one or more grantees to travel to SHRM’s Volunteer Leaders’ Summit on Nov. 18, 2018, at National Harbor, Maryland, to present their program and preliminary or final results.

How to Apply 

There will be two application rounds. All applicants are required to submit an initial proposal (round one), and semi-finalists selected by SHRM Foundation staff will submit a more detailed proposal (round two) as described below.


Round One: Initial Proposal 
Complete an online application, including contact information, and: 

  1. Program/event description: How will it address a challenge related to veteran hiring or retention?
     
  2. Audience: What is the program's primary audience?

  3. Implementation timeline: When will you will begin development and launch your program?

  4. Cost: If the total cost is more than $10,000 (the maximum award for this grant), please tell us how you will fund the difference.


Round Two: Detailed Proposal
Additional information on the following requirements will be available to those selected for round two.


  • Detailed budget and timeline
  • Marketing and promotion
  • Impact
  • Applicability and scalability
  • Volunteer Leaders’ Summit presenter 

Eligibility

  • SHRM chapter or state council in good standing
  • Those who submit an application must be a SHRM member
  • Designated a SHRM Foundation chapter or state council champion in 2017
  • Conducting or planning a local program or community service event within the next six months that focuses on one of two categories:
    • Helping veterans find jobs that match their unique skill sets
    • Helping employers increase veteran retention
