Caregiving and the Workplace: Keeping Talent Connected to Work
As National Family Caregivers Month approaches in November, SHRM is bringing attention to an increasingly important workforce issue: how employers can support employees balancing caregiving responsibilities with their careers.
From caring for children and aging parents to supporting family members with disabilities or complex health needs, caregiving responsibilities can have significant implications for workforce participation, employee retention, and career advancement.
SHRM research underscores these challenges. Nearly half (47%) of working caregivers would consider changing jobs for better caregiving support, while 42% report that caregiving responsibilities have hindered their career advancement. Meanwhile, 79% of HR professionals identify elder care as an emerging gap in employer benefits.
For HR professionals, these findings highlight the importance of looking beyond traditional leave policies to consider workplace flexibility, manager support, benefits awareness, and practices that help employees remain connected to work.
On Thursday, Oct. 29, at 4 p.m. ET, SHRM, in partnership with J.J. Keller and Associates, will host “Caregiving and the Workplace: Keeping Talent Connected to Work”, exploring the intersection of caregiving, public policy, and workplace practices, with practical insights for HR professionals navigating these challenges.
The webinar is free and open to everyone, including SHRM Members and nonmembers. Register today!
