Georgia SHRM Members Advocate for Workforce Policy Reforms on Capitol Hill
On April 2, nearly 20 SHRM members from Georgia participated in their annual Day Inside the Beltway Advocacy Experience, meeting directly with policymakers to discuss key workplace challenges and policy solutions. This premier advocacy event allowed SHRM members to elevate the HR profession’s voice on critical workforce issues with their representatives and senators in Congress.
During their meetings, SHRM members met with lawmakers to discuss:
- Modernizing the tax code: Advocating for policymakers to prioritize tax provisions that support employees, enhance workforce participation, and strengthen workplace benefits. These include supporting the Paid Leave Tax Credit and the Child and Dependent Care Credit, strengthening and expanding Section 127 of the tax code, and passing H.R. 2036, the Credit for Caring Act.
- Workforce development: Urging Congress to reauthorize WIOA and expand Workforce Pell Grants to close the skills gap and strengthen economic mobility.
- Responsible AI integration: Calling for a uniform federal standard to guide ethical use of artificial intelligence, prevent bias, and ensure workers have access to upskilling and reskilling opportunities.
SHRM members emphasized that the workplace has evolved and that labor policies must keep pace to support both employers and employees. They shared data on workforce trends, reinforcing the need for reforms that promote economic growth, workplace flexibility, and long-term workforce development.
By engaging directly with policymakers, SHRM members are helping to drive forward-thinking, people-focused workplace policies.
