SHRM Highlights Summer Learning as a Workforce Strategy on Capitol Hill
SHRM Foundation President Wendi Safstrom joined education, workforce, and congressional leaders at the National Summer Learning Association's Summer for All 2026 Capitol Hill Briefing to discuss how high-quality summer learning experiences can strengthen America's future workforce. Hosted in partnership with Senators Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Andy Kim (D-NJ), the bipartisan event explored the connection between summer learning, career readiness, and economic mobility.
During the discussion, Safstrom highlighted SHRM's Education-to-Employment (E²) Initiative and Career Corps framework, emphasizing that career exploration, mentoring, and work-based learning opportunities help young people develop the durable skills employers need most. She reinforced that stronger partnerships among employers, educators, workforce organizations, and policymakers are essential to building more effective talent pipelines.
SHRM's participation reflects the organization's ongoing commitment to advancing employer-led solutions that connect education to employment and prepare the next generation for success in the workforce.
