The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) 2020 Annual Conference & Expo, previously scheduled for late June in San Diego, has been canceled following directives from the San Diego Convention Center, the city of San Diego and the state of California, as well as guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
"Given the current pandemic, and with health and safety as our north star, we believe it prudent to maintain policies of social distancing and to adhere to the direction given by the CDC and the city of San Diego," said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, president and chief executive officer of SHRM, in a recorded message to attendees. "With that said, it's with regret I announce the cancellation of SHRM20." People who registered to attend the San Diego conference will have their registrations automatically transferred to the SHRM 2021 Annual Conference & Expo scheduled for June 20-23 in Chicago. Those who can't commit to the 2021 conference should make refund requests by June 9 via this online form.
"Though we can't convene in-person, we will continue to support each other especially as we navigate COVID-19's impact and start to rebuild the economy and workplaces across the globe," said Taylor, announcing a new virtual event series called "Tune in Tuesday" beginning June 9. New digital content will be offered on the second Tuesday of every month leading up to SHRM21. It can be found at https://annual.shrm.org/.
