States reported that 233,000 workers filed for new unemployment benefits during the week ending June 22, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week’s revised level.
Takeaway for employers: While layoffs remain at historically low levels, the number of people collecting unemployment benefits rose to 1,839,000, an increase of 18,000 from the previous week's revised level. This is the highest level for insured unemployment since Nov. 27, 2021.
