More employers will be required to submit workplace injury and illness information under a final rule released by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 2023. The new rule will take effect on Jan. 1, 2024. OSHA is amending its regulations to require certain companies to electronically report work-related injury and illness data.

How Do I Create an ITA Account?
To create an ITA account, go to the Injury Tracking Application Login page and select the Create an ITA Account link that is right below the Injury Tracking Application banner. Follow the instructions from there. You cannot access ITA without an active Login.gov account. Your ITA account needs to use the same email address as your Login.gov account. The steps to create an ITA account and connect it to a Login.gov account are explained in the Create an ITA Account. You can also watch our How To Video, which covers the account creation process.

This requirement applies to employers that have more than 100 employees in various “high hazard” industries. This includes agriculture, manufacturing, grocers, construction, transportation, warehousing and storage, and retail. The size criterion of 100 or more employees is determined by the number of employees at an “establishment” during the previous calendar year. An establishment is defined as “a single physical location where business is conducted or where services or industrial operations are performed.”

The amount of new data going to OSHA under these new rules is extensive. OSHA estimates approximately 50,000 establishments will now be required to submit their case-specific injury and illness data, which will result in reports on approximately 750,000 injury/illness cases annually.
