What Do You Love About HR?

Valentines to the HR profession and SHRM certification

Red paper hearts on a white background.

Valentine's Day has come and gone, but our readers' love for HR and certification is forever. Here are a few items to remind us of what's important.

My mantra is "know thyself." I love that in HR I am allowed the privilege of helping others to better know themselves and to truly embrace and maximize their natural talents, and all the while I am strengthening a team, organization or culture. What an exquisite connection I get to make with other lovely humans!

Alexandra Ocampo Carr, SHRM-SCP, Bridgeport, Conn.

It's the diversity. I'm not just talking about Inclusion & Diversity, but more importantly, the variety of challenges we face and the contributions we have the opportunity to make toward enhancing a business's strategic goals. I enjoy working with leaders, coaching them on improved communication skills and on conflict prevention and resolution. My certifications have allowed me to facilitate study groups preparing other HR professionals for certification [as to] the breadth of knowledge that will be covered, and also [providing them with] effective tips for managing exam-taking stress. I am continuing my own education, too, as I learn from my students and as I learn from being an adjunct professor of organizational leadership.

Carla Bange, SHRM-SCP, San Diego

What I love about HR is that the profession is ever-changing to make things better—whether it's new strategies to help employees with their development, effective training plans, new HR technologies and tools, or partnering with top-level managers to find ways of improving processes to help the company reach its objectives. I love helping employees reach and realize their fullest potential as well as being an advocate for diversity.
