Occupational Health Nurse Supervisor




Job Summary:

The Occupational Health Nurse Supervisor will administer and coordinate the activities of the occupational health department to ensure responsive medical support for employees in accordance with company and corporate policies and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assesses, treats, evaluates, refers (if necessary), and follows up on occupational injuries and illnesses incurred by sick or injured employees.
  • Assesses, treats, evaluates, refers (if necessary), and follows up on all nonoccupational injuries and illnesses. Interfaces with employees and the employees physician.
  • Monitors symptoms of an illness or injury and guides the safety engineer on measures that could be implemented to prevent future occurrences of the problem that resulted in the illness or injury.
  • Administers and coordinates routine health examinations to prevent occupational injury and health problems. These examinations include but are not limited to lead screening, eye and skin evaluations for employees working with lasers, and hearing conservation.
  • Coordinates and serves as a member of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Develops and coordinates procedures in response to corporate policies on pre-employment examinations and drug screening. Administers and documents drug testing for incoming employment candidates and for randomly selected incumbent employees.
  • Administers health maintenance and illness/injury prevention programs designed to educate employees on topics such as smoking, weight reduction, stress control, cancer screening, hypertension screening and control, and cholesterol levels.
  • Maintains employee medical records and documentation such as OSHA reports, quarterly reports to corporate on drug and alcohol testing, monthly reports to human resources, and other health-related statistics.
  • Reviews employee absenteeism statistics.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Education and Experience:

  • B.S., R.N. degree required.
  • At least five years of experience in an industrial occupational health department, one year of which includes supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
