Salary History Inquiries Policy

Purpose

To ensure compliance with state and local laws and to avoid pay disparity issues that arise when considering past compensation of job candidates, [Company Name] prohibits any form of inquiry into a candidate's salary history during the hiring process.

Policy

Salary history is defined as an individual's current or prior compensation, including base pay, incentive pay, benefits and other forms of compensation.

[Company Name] will not ask about salary history on a job application, during an interview, when conducting reference checks or through any other means.

Candidates may be informed of the current salary range and asked of their salary expectations to ensure the candidate's expectations are in line with the compensation being offered. However, at no time will a candidate be encouraged or prompted to disclose his or her current salary.

All offers of employment will include compensation based on [Company Name's] defined salary range for the position. Once an offer of employment has been extended, a candidate may voluntarily disclose salary history if they choose to negotiate starting pay within the defined salary range.

Questions regarding this policy should be directed to Human Resources.
