SHRM21 Features Listening Session with EEOC Officials




Las Vegas — SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management) hosts a discussion today with leaders of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) during the SHRM Annual Conference and Expo at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The in-person and virtual event, titled "EEOC Listening Session: The Future of Equitable Workplaces," features EEOC Chair Charlotte A. Burrows and Commissioner Keith E. Sonderling.

"HR professionals play a key role delivering on the promise of equitable and inclusive workplaces, and we are proud to be a resource to this vital federal agency," said Emily M. Dickens, SHRM chief of staff, head of government affairs and corporate secretary. "This is a special opportunity to learn about EEOC priorities for the next few years and have the subject matter experts—HR professionals—provide input."  

"Our nation is facing many urgent challenges in the area of equal employment opportunity—from the civil rights impact of COVID-19, to Me Too issues and the need to foster diverse and inclusive workplaces," said Chair Burrows. "EEOC has a critical role to play, and HR professionals are key partners in addressing these issues."

"One of the most important aspects of our jobs as regulators is to listen to all stakeholders," said Commissioner Sonderling.  "I am excited to join Chair Burrows today at SHRM21 to hear from an array of voices and opinions, which can help the EEOC better carry out its crucial mission."

The EEOC provides workplace policy guidance for employers, enforces federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination, and is the nation's leading federal agency dedicated to advancing equal opportunity in the workplace. The commission has 53 field offices across the country that help solve harassment and discrimination problems.

The EEOC Listening Session runs from 1 to 2 p.m. Pacific at the Las Vegas Convention Center, West Hall, Room W322-327.

SHRM21 runs in-person and virtually September 9-12 in Las Vegas. HR professionals, CHROs, people managers and students will have the opportunity to engage on best workplace practices, discuss new DE&I data from SHRM, learn about the latest trends and benchmarking, and explore how to a build better workplace culture.
