SHRM at the United Nations
As SHRM continues to expand its global policy presence, SHRM is deepening its engagement at the United Nations. During the recent 68th annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68)—the UN’s largest gathering focused on gender equality and women’s empowerment—on March 10, SHRM co-hosted a luncheon with the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and facilitated a dynamic discussion with leadership from Mouvement des Entreprises de France (MEDEF - France’s largest employer federation), senior officials from the UN Secretary-General’s office, SHRM members and global policy leaders. The conversation centered on the challenges and opportunities of embracing technology in the Future of Work—a critical issue to bridge the digital divide and ensure inclusive economic growth.
Then on March 14, Emily M. Dickens, J.D, SHRM chief of staff, head of government affairs, and corporate secretary participated in the Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC) side event titled “Equal Pay for Work of Equal Value: Unlocking Women’s Potential Across the Life Cycle,” focused on strategies to enhance equal opportunities in the workplace and strengthen global commitments to pay equity. Dickens contributed data-driven during a panel discussion, emphasizing SHRM’s commitment to proactive pay equity audits and transparent compensation practices as key drivers of equitable workplaces. EPIC is by the International Labour Organization (ILO), UN Women, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The Coalition’s goal is to achieve equal pay for women and men everywhere.
