SHRM Submits Response to White House Request for Information on AI Action Plan
On March 14, 2025, SHRM submitted its response to the Request for Information (RFI) issued by the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and the National Coordination Office (NCO) regarding the development of a national Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan. In its response, SHRM emphasized AI’s potential to improve productivity and innovation in the workplace, while also highlighting the importance of policies that ensure workforce readiness as AI technologies are adopted.
SHRM also addressed the need for upskilling and reskilling initiatives to help workers adapt to an AI-driven economy. The response recommended fostering public-private partnerships to create training programs tailored to the evolving demands of the workplace. Additionally, SHRM called for clear and consistent AI regulations to support responsible implementation, along with enhanced privacy and cybersecurity measures to protect employee data. SHRM expressed its continued interest in collaborating with policymakers to help shape AI policies that support workers and promote economic growth.
As SHRM President and CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr. has stated, “The opportunities AI presents are limitless. When combined with human ingenuity (HI), this synergy has the capacity to transform your organization while maximizing human potential. AI + HI = ROI.” SHRM’s philosophy is that AI should be viewed as a powerful tool that, when coupled with human intelligence, drives innovation, and maximizes results for organizations.
