About the SHRM Foundation

Founded in 1966, SHRM Foundation empowers human resources as a force for social good. As the nonprofit arm of SHRM, the world's largest HR professional society, they equip nearly 340,000 members and touch the lives of over 362 million individuals.

Team smiles at the camera

In the face of complex challenges within the world of work, SHRM Foundation believes that HR holds a unique position to lead change. The organization mobilizes and equips HR to ensure the prosperity and thriving of talent and workplaces. The foundation works by widening pathways to work for more skills-first candidates and more kinds of talent; tackling societal challenges, with a current focus on workplace mental health and wellness; and strengthening the HR field with even more diversity, growth, and readiness to address these needs. SHRM Foundation works with SHRM, courageous partners, and bold investors to generate awareness, action, and impact to build a world of work that works for all.

Purpose

Elevate and empower HR as a force for social good.

Mission

Advancing a World of Work that Works for All

  • Landscape & Issue Research and Thought Leadership. Commissioning and conducting foundational research to identify key challenges and solutions for the future of work.

  • Convening, Collaboration, Coalition Building, and Piloting. Bringing together thought leaders and partners to align and maximize impact.

  • Knowledge, Tools, and Trainings. Delivering resources for HR professionals, people managers, and c-suite executives through tools, trainings, knowledge hubs, and credentials.

  • Communications, Engagement, and Recognition. Driving awareness, behavior change, and adoption of inclusive policies that drive an inclusive future of work through storytelling.

  • Evaluation and Impact Measurement. Assessing–and helping employers assess–outcomes to track progress, refine strategies, and make the case for change.

  • Direct Investment in Transformative Changemakers. Providing scholarships, grants, and loans to support promising individuals and businesses as they accelerate progress, test ideas, and create change.

Board of Directors

The SHRM Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of distinguished HR academic and practice leaders. The SHRM Foundation recognizes the leadership and dedication of the Board of Directors, whose leadership and commitment are instrumental in advancing our mission and bringing our impact to life. We are proud that all board members contribute to our annual campaign.

Financial Transparency

SHRM is a mission-driven organization that makes available for public inspection its annual information return via Form 990. Here we provide the organization’s finances and activities, including grants, fundraising fees, program service revenue, and employee salaries as required by the IRS filings.
