Job Summary:
The Mathematician will use computational techniques and theories to analyze data and solve problems to support and improve company business decisions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with engineers, clients, and other staff to identify the specific problem; implements mathematical theories and techniques to solve or work toward a solution.
- Develops and uses various computational methods to solve engineering problems.
- Creates statistical or mathematical models to use in analyses or computer modeling simulations.
- Collects and analyzes data to identify trends and relationships.
- Prepares and presents research results to engineers, managers, and clients.
- Reviews and analyzes the security of data and related systems and networks.
- Maintains current knowledge of emerging industry or technology trends by participating in professional conferences, maintaining relationships with other mathematicians, and reading professional journals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of mathematics and theoretical mathematics especially as they relate to problems associated with engineering.
- Thorough understanding of basic principles of engineering.
- Ability to evaluate and analyze data.
- Excellent deductive reasoning skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use computer code and modeling to solve problems.
- Extremely proficient with analytical and scientific software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Mathematics or related field required; Masters degree preferred.
- At least two years working with applied mathematics in relation to engineering preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
