Job Summary:
The Automotive Engineer will apply engineering principles to design and improve automobile systems and components.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Estimates engineering specifications, time, and costs necessary to complete projects.
- Designs new, and modifies existing, automobile systems and components to produce a more efficient and/or higher quality product. This may include aerodynamics, ergonomics, alternative fuels, or lighter material choices.
- Develops quality control and/or production standards.
- Develops and designs the assembly of vehicles, parts, and systems.
- Researches and tests products to analyze performance, design, and operation of each.
- Analyzes, writes, and maintains documentation relating to automotive engineering projects.
- Prepares and presents status reports.
- Writes bulletins, handbooks, and technical reports for staff and/or customers.
- Collaborates and coordinates with other units such as maintenance, quality control, or procurement to ensure efficient production activities.
- Offers technical guidance to other engineers or engineering support staff.
- Explores new concepts in the automotive engineering field based on self-conducted and peer research.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to identify and creatively solve complex problems.
- Ability to execute logical reasoning and decision-making skills.
- Basic understanding of machine welding and tooling.
- Proficient in related computer software and technologies including Microsoft Office Suite, CAD and AutoCAD.
- Thorough understanding of automotive engineering policies and practices.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering required; specialized Automotive concentration preferred.
- At least one year of experience, which may include internship, preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
