Job Summary:
The Loan Counselor will provide specialized guidance to potential loan applicants who have cannot qualify for traditional loans.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Interviews applicants to understand past and present financial history and to collect information needed to complete lending applications and/or modification paperwork.
- Assists current borrowers with debt prioritization, consolidation, refinance, and loan modifications.
- Reviews applications and supporting paperwork for completion and accuracy; resolves any inconsistent, inaccurate, or missing information.
- Counsels applicants and answers any questions about the application, lending, or modification process.
- Submits completed applications to credit analysts for evaluation, verification, and further recommendations.
- Assesses or assists with assessment of applicants financial status, credit, and property evaluations to determine creditworthiness.
- Approves loans and modifications within pre-authorized parameters; refers other loans to committee for approval.
- Maintains current knowledge of applicable financial and credit regulations and best practices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Thorough understanding of lending products and services.
- Ability to explain complicated loan policies and terms in a clear and understandable way.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software program.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma required; Associates degree in related field or some college coursework in a related area preferred.
- Experience in customer or financial service preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
