Job Summary:
The Transplant Coordinator will coordinate in-hospital transplant services including solicitation of organ donors and overseeing actual transplant procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Communicates with donors, patients, and health professionals to ensure proper documentation and informed consent by the donor and transplant recipient.
- Ensures that all patients have equal access to the transplantation system and full knowledge of alternative treatments.
- Provides medical history information to supplement physical examinations and tests for preliminary screening of patients and prospective donors.
- Schedules laboratory tests for recipients and possible donors to determine histo-compatibility of blood and other tissue.
- Conducts education programs for community and health care professionals to raise public awareness of the need for transplant organs and to increase the supply of organ donors.
- Coordinates efforts with the health care team to solicit donations from families of suitable donors.
- Cooperates with and assists efforts to develop a nationwide organ bank and to facilitate coordination of organ transplants on a national basis.
- Works with the entire health care team to provide counseling and support for donors, recipients, and their families throughout the transplant process.
- Provides information to post-operative patients about therapies and rehabilitation resources available to assist in regaining their health following transplant procedures.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Compassionate manner to work effectively with patients and potential donors or donor families under stressful or traumatic situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team with other medical staff.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in nursing required.
- Current state license required.
- At least three years of experience with a surgical service.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
