Foster Civility, Decrease Conflict

Treating colleagues, customers and clients with civility fosters a positive atmosphere where employees thrive, productivity and collaboration flourish, and absenteeism decreases.

In fact, a respectful workplace culture is an important component of employee morale and engagement.

“The world is brimming with diverse opinions and perspectives,” said SHRM President and Chief Executive Officer Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., in a LinkedIn post. “… We won’t agree on everything. That’s why civility has never been more paramount.”

New SHRM research found 66 percent of U.S. workers experienced or witnessed incivility in the workplace over the past month, and 33 percent expect workplace conflict to increase over the next 12 months.
On March 7, SHRM announced its “1 Million Civil Conversations” initiative to foster inclusive and respectful workplace cultures that help people and business thrive.

“Civility is the universal language,” Taylor said, “that bridges gaps, heals divides, and fosters a culture of respect and cooperation.”

The following SHRM24 concurrent sessions and other offerings feature speakers sharing insights on how your organization can be a catalyst for civility. All times are Central time.
