Job Summary:
The Senior Health Educator will promote good health/disease prevention strategies by educating members about importance of a healthy lifestyle such as nutrition, exercise, and elimination of tobacco use and by awareness of the need for proper screening for certain diseases.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Reviews and evaluates job performances of education department staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Analyzes a range of educational programs available to members compared with the needs of the member population. Selects subjects for emphasis over the ensuing year.
- Reviews materials to ensure that subject matter is current and encompasses a variety of media delivery such as general or selective mailings, general or selective meetings, use of TV or radio information, hot line information recordings, and social media.
- Updates information as required. Develops and tests new programs as needed.
- Uses the technical skills of design staff and supervises the preparation of booklets or videos.
- Conducts workshops for community trainers.
- Prepares the budget and presents it to the chief financial officer and to board of governors.
- Conducts periodic surveys of member satisfaction of the health information provided and to obtain suggestions for additions to program.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal skills to develop curriculum for new or updated programs.
- Supervisory ability to train and evaluate staff.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in public or community health, behavioral sciences or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
- At least three years of experience in health education with at least a portion in a direct education position dealing with the public.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- May required prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
