Amazon, PepsiCo Win HRM Impact Award

Amazon and PepsiCo are winners of the 2018 Human Resource Management (HRM) Impact Award for their programs that address internal and global hiring needs.

The award is an international honor given by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the SHRM Foundation, the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) and the SIOP Foundation. SIOP is an international professional organization whose members include industrial-organizational psychologists. 

The award recognizes organizations with outstanding evidence-based HR management practices; it also promotes HR practices and initiatives that have been measured and determined successful through evidence-based, data-driven analyses.

Anthem, a health insurance company based in Indianapolis, was awarded honorable mention for its project, "Driving Workforce Productivity with People Analytics."

Amazon's Candidate Experience 

Amazon won for its program, "Simulation Strategy to Scale and Preserve the Candidate Experience."

The Seattle-based company has grown by more than 300,000 employees in the past three years. It wanted to find a way to preserve the candidate experience and maintain a high hiring bar. It credits the program with achieving both those goals.

Amazon's industrial-organizational psychologists and HR professionals designed online assessments that were relevant to the job, could predict candidate success, created a good experience for job seekers and could be used by many job seekers at once.

The online retailer will receive its award in April at the 34th Annual SIOP Conference at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in Maryland.

PepsiCo's Leadership Program 

PepsiCo, based in Harrison, N.Y., won for its Global Leadership Assessment & Development (LeAD) Program. The company credits the program with helping it since 2013 to accurately and consistently identify and develop talented internal workers—whether they're early in their career or serving as senior executives.

Multiple methods are used to gauge competencies—characteristics, skills and knowledge—to help the company build a pipeline of up-and-coming leaders. Workers receive feedback to help them learn and grow, and PepsiCo gets data "that can help us have informed talent management decisions and discussions," said Allan H. Church, Ph.D., senior vice president of global talent assessment and development at PepsiCo.

The food and beverage company received its award Oct. 19 during SIOP's Leading Edge Consortium, "High Potential: Identifying, Developing, and Retaining Future Leaders" in Baltimore.
