For the second year in a row, SHRM's People Manager Qualification (PMQ)—the premier self-paced people manager development program—was recognized by the Brandon Hall Group Human Capital Management (HCM) Excellence Awards. Sometimes referred to as the Academy Awards of learning, development and HR, the Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards are some of the most prestigious recognitions in the industry. Garnering even more excitement, the PMQ swept the Gold category in the Leadership Development awards it was eligible for in 2022! The awards are as follows:

  • GOLD for Best Advance in Leadership Development.
  • GOLD for Best Learning Program that Supports and Promotes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • GOLD for Best Unique or Innovative Leadership Development Program.
  • GOLD for Best Association Professional Development Program.
  • GOLD for Best Development Program for Frontline Leaders.
  • SILVER for Best Advance in Competencies and Skill Development.

SHRM's PMQ was also recognized for Excellence in Learning, Best Custom Content (Gold) and Excellence in Learning, Best Unique or Innovative Learning and Development Program (Silver) in 2021.

"We are honored for the recognition and praise our PMQ program is receiving," said Nick Schacht, SHRM-SCP, chief commercial officer at SHRM. "Through more than three and a half decades in training and development, I have learned that when properly skilled, individuals can make an incredible impact on your business. Nick Schacht, SHRM-SCP, chief commercial officer at SHRM.People managers affect the employee experience of every person in the workforce, and yet sadly, they often receive poor or no guidance. PMQ helps managers reach their potential and ignite their teams to make lasting change."

So What's All the Buzz About?

Many times, we assume someone who was a rock star as an individual contributor will thrive once they're promoted to a people manager role. But in reality, that's where many first-time people managers struggle. People aren't born with the skills to be effective leaders and managers right out of the gate, especially when it comes to team leadership, situational judgment, effective communication and performance management. One in three workers say their manager can't lead a team. To put it bluntly, bad managers are bad for business—so much so that U.S. organizations have lost $223 billion in the past five years due to employee turnover.

It's clear that U.S. workplaces have a problem. Fortunately, SHRM has a turnkey solution!

The SHRM PMQ is your gateway to effective people management and leadership. This one-of-a-kind, award-winning learning and development experience combines interactivity, gamification and edutainment to engage learners and build critical people management and team leadership skills. From its often-edgy style to its real-world scenarios and nontraditional learning design, the PMQ teaches managers the skills they need in ways that help them learn best.

Thousands of professionals have already earned their PMQ, and their numbers are growing by the day. Nearly 90 percent of PMQ-holders said that because of the PMQ, they feel they are better prepared to manage other people. Furthermore, 95 percent said PMQ will help others improve their people management skills. In fact, one recent PMQ-earner said, "I really learned a lot; being a SHRM-SCP, I expected the journey to be similar in content and learning, but this was different. This was a real journey, and a dose of reality and current world events were very present. I am walking away with new perspective and more thoughtful approaches to my team and my management approach."
