SHRM Comments on AI Literacy, Workforce Preparedness in Grant Programs
On Aug. 20, SHRM submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Education on the proposed rule “Proposed Priority and Definitions-Secretary's Supplemental Priority and Definitions on Advancing Artificial Intelligence in Education” SHRM highlighted the importance of integrating AI literacy and workforce readiness into federal education initiatives while emphasizing the role of public-private partnerships and structured pathways from education to employment.
In its comments, SHRM underscored that preparing students and workers for an AI-driven economy requires a coordinated approach across education, employers, and policymakers. SHRM highlighted its Education-to-Employment (E²) Initiative as a model for connecting K-12 and higher education with employers, ensuring students gain the skills needed to succeed in the evolving labor market. It also emphasized that employers are critical partners in defining careerrelevant skills, advising on credentialing programs, and shaping experiential learning opportunities.
