Testing Options

Once you complete the application process, you will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) letter with instructions on how to select your exam date and delivery option. You have the option of taking your SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP exam in-person at an authorized testing center or from home through live remote proctoring. Both options are administered by Prometric, our test administration partner.

Watch our testing options video for assistance in deciding which option is best for you.

Testing at a Prometric Test Center

  • When you enter the test center, you will be greeted by a friendly Prometric Test Center Administrator (TCA).

  • You’ll be asked to provide a valid form of identification (refer to the SHRM Certification Handbook for ID requirements).

  • Once your ID is confirmed, you will be asked to sign in and provided with any materials required for your test (i.e., scrap paper and a pencil or a dry erase board and pen).

  • You’ll then be assigned a locker. All of your personal belongings must be placed in your locker during the time you are in the center. Your ID and locker key can remain with you.

  • Next, you will go through a security screening (asked to turn your pockets inside out, scanned with a metal detector wand) prior to entering the testing room. Standard test center rules and regulations and specific exam policies will also be explained at this time.

  • You will then be guided to your testing seat to begin your exam.

  • If you have questions or concerns during testing, raise your hand and your TCA will assist.
  • International candidates should identify their testing center by accessing Appendix C: Regional Testing Contact Centers in the SHRM Certification Handbook and using the contact information available for the preferred testing center.

  • NOTE: Test centers will close due to inclement weather or other unforeseeable circumstances. View an up-to-date list of Prometric Test Center Closures here.

 Testing Via Remote Proctoring

PREPARE

TEST

  • Prior to exam launch you must complete an easy self-service check in process that includes capturing an image of your face and your photo ID and completing a candidate preparedness checklist. (refer to the SHRM Certification Handbook for ID requirements).

  • When the check in process is complete, you will be greeted by a friendly Prometric Readiness Agent who will guide you through three security checks that involve the confirmation of your personal information via a video chat; a 360-degree environmental check using your webcam, and a person check where the agent will ask you to stand up so they can complete the required personal scans. When this is complete you will be ready to begin your online proctored exam. The proctor will launch your exam.

  • While taking the exam, you will be observed by a Prometric Proctor. He/she will monitor you throughout the testing process and will be available to aid at any point during your exam.

  • Using a LIVE PROCTOR feature, you will be able to speak with or send messages to your Proctor when you need help.
