SHRM Announces Cynthia "Cynt" Marshall, Dallas Mavericks CEO as Featured Speaker at SHRM INCLUSION 2022
Alexandria, Va. — SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management) announced today Cynthia "Cynt" Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks, will speak at the SHRM INCLUSION 2022 conference on Monday, October 24, held virtually and in-person in San Diego, California from October 24-26.
Marshall will join SHRM Chief of Staff and Head of Government Affairs Emily M. Dickens in a fireside chat focused on the potential of value-based leadership to bring transparency and trust to any organization.
"I am excited to welcome Cynthia "Cynt" Marshall to SHRM INCLUSION 2022 to discuss leadership and inclusion in the workplace," said Emily M. Dickens, J.D., SHRM, Chief of Staff, Head of Government Affairs & Corporate Secretary. "Cynthia is a maverick who has taken deliberate action to break barriers and cultivate safe, productive workplaces that spark positive change".
Marshall, the first black female CEO in the NBA, said her vision was for the Dallas Mavericks organization to become the global standard for inclusion and diversity, and now the franchise is known as an award-winning one in diversity.
She has been a dynamic force and leader for inclusion and diversity within the Mavericks organization and over a 36-year career at AT&T. When Marshall was hired as the CEO of the Mavs in March 2018, she set her sights on a culture transformation. Her vision was for the Mavericks organization to become the NBA standard for inclusion and diversity. Marshall brought transparency, trust and her values-based leadership style that evolved the company culture in her first 100 days.
She knows first-hand the impact of women leaders in male-dominated industries and shares her journey as a mother working through serious illness while serving in corporate leadership positions. This critical conversation gives attendees first-hand knowledge regarding the difference between diversity and inclusion and why diversity does not guarantee inclusion.
Prior to her joining the Mavs, Marshall founded Marshalling Resources, a consulting firm specializing in leadership, diversity & inclusion, culture transformation and overall optimization of people resources.
Throughout her career, Marshall has elevated diversity and inclusion at numerous organizations. During her executive roles at Dow Chemical Company and AT&T, both companies were named to DiversityInc's Top 50 list.
Widely recognized for her visionary leadership and ability to get things done, Marshall is the recipient of several honors and awards. Marshall was named to Forbes list of 15 of the world's most inspiring female leaders in 2021 and Adweek's 30 Most Powerful Women in Sports to name a couple in 2020.
