Job Summary:
The Parking Enforcement Worker will ensure that motorists adhere to local parking rules.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Ensures that motorists abide by parking laws and ordinances.
- Patrols assigned areas and issues citations for violations of parking laws and ordinances including unlawfully parking in a handicapped space or fire lane.
- Collects money in parking meters in assigned areas.
- Attaches boot or locking device to vehicles and/or notifies towing company when required by city ordinances.
- Maintains logs, reports, and other documentation of observed violations.
- Assists with resolution and investigation of contested parking citations.
- Answers driver questions regarding parking, directions, or similar issues.
- Reports hazardous conditions such as faded street markings or missing or malfunctioning traffic signals.
- Contacts appropriate law enforcement for handling of escalated violations and automobile accidents.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of local parking laws, rules, and ordinances.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software as required for recordkeeping.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Successful completion of civil service exam required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods walking throughout assigned area, sometimes over uneven terrain.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather.
- Will require periodic night and weekend assignments, particularly during special events.
